Herdís Anna Jónasdóttir
For this concert in the Friday Series, the cello section of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra joins forces with soprano Herdís Anna Jónasdóttir in a captivating and diverse program where Icelandic and South American music converge. The works performed include compositions by Villa-Lobos, Þórður Magnússon, Astor Piazzolla, Magnús Blöndal Jóhannsson and others. Herdís Anna Jónasdóttir, soprano, has been one of the country's foremost vocalists for many years and she has received numerous awards for her artistry — including the Icelandic Music Awards in 2022 and the Gríma Awards in 2019. It is a special delight to hear her bright and tender voice intertwine with the soft and engaging sound of the cello, which otherwise dominates in the programme.
