Harpa fam­ily pro­gram: Rhythm and rhyme

Harpa invites kids aged 9-12 to a fun music workshop, Taktur og texti (or Rythm and Rhyme) with Keli og Steinunn, on Sunday May 18th.

Rythm and rhyme is an experimental project where electronic music meets Icelandic lyrics. The kids learn the basics of electronic music creation, lyrics and flow. Sometimes the music comes first, but sometimes the lyrics come first. Who knows if a fully formed song will be created that can be enjoyed for the foreseeable future?

Participation in the workshop is free but registration necessary due to limited availability.

Accessibility and age criteria
The event takes place in Icelandic, but instructors can also translate into English for those who need it. Lyrics in the workshop an be written in more langugaes than Icelandic.
The event is only for children aged 9-12.
The event takes place in an open space with a smooth floor and good elevator access.

Hrafnkell Örn Guðjónsson is best known as one quarter of the band Agent Fresco, but has also been involved in many Icelandic musical scenes with a large number of musicians. These include Pál Óskar, Emmsjé Gauti and Úlfur Úlfur. He has supported musicians in a recording studio and also works as a music teacher at Fellaskóli. There, he has been involved in building projects such as band selection, which simulates a garage band environment, and electronic music, where creativity is brought into a digital environment and kids are given a lot of freedom to create. In recent years, Hrafnkell has directed Fellaskóli's Skrekkur project and helped children who have participated in projects such as Björgvin Halldórs's Christmas Star and Uptakturinn.

Steinunn Jónsdóttir is a musician and dance teacher. She started music studies at the age of six, sang in a choir and studied classical viola at Kópavogur's Music Academy. Along with music, she pursued various dance studies and graduated in 2009 with a diploma in modern dance at secondary school level from the Iceland School of Art and Dance. Steinunn is one of the frontmen of the band Amabadama, which enjoyed great popularity in the years 2014 - 2017, and Reykjavíkurdætur, which was founded in December 2013. In the decade that she has been working in music, she has fought for the increased visibility of women in the music scene and played a part in pave the way for female musicians of the future.
Steinunn teaches lyric writing at Fellaskóli and at courses she holds herself, and through that she has gained a lot of experience in guiding and working with children.
